Flavia Nakayima Miiro

Flavia Nakayima Miiro is a doctoral candidate in Epidemiology at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, University of Arizona. She is a member of Dr. Kate Ellingson’s lab, where her research focuses on hospital-acquired infections, with a particular emphasis on Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs).

Before beginning her doctoral studies, Flavia worked as an infectious disease epidemiologist in Uganda. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

Her current research is grounded in resource-limited settings and addresses critical gaps in infection prevention and control. Given that urinary catheters are used in approximately 75% of hospitalized patients, her work has broad relevance for improving patient safety and healthcare quality across diverse clinical environments.
